Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam is a  classical dance orginating in the southern state of Tamil Nadu in India. It is a dynamic, and athletic dance style characterised by its inherent sense of alignment, extension and precision. Bharatanatyam is unique in how it portrays abstract or realistic images through the interplay of music, dance and drama.

Rasa is the emotional energy or experience that is created in a performance between the dancers, musicians and the audience. Through rhythmical footwork set to percussive and vocal rhythms the performers create an exciting and spontaneous atmosphere. This is complimented by dance pieces which communicate human sentiments through the emotional quality of the music and the sensitivity of the performers expressions and gestures.
